My son Caleb and I made these Spider Chocolate Chip Cookies last week and I shared a pic on Facebook with the intentions to immediately blog about them. But then I got crazy-busy and forgot... ha!
I have to be honest... these cookies were 98% Caleb... 2% me. I showed him a picture of the spider cookies I saw over at Hungry Happenings and he jumped right in to the project.
PS - if you want a good laugh, also check out Bridget's post that resulted in some spider cookies... hysterical!!
Back to what I was saying... Caleb got out the recipe and baked the cookies and he piped on all the spiders except for maybe the three that I practiced on to show him how.
The only thing I did other than giving him a little advice on piping was to help him push chocolate chips into the cookies before baking.
Why did we do these? For my brother Jake of course.
Jake hates spiders. Like, really, really hates spiders. He might hate them as much as I hate frogs. So we thought it would be fun to make him some of these cookies (that he loves) with spiders (that he hates).
I'm a mean big sister. Yes, I am.
Anyway, it was a fun little project for Caleb and not at all hard to do!
I recommend my chocolate chip cookie recipe - but any good recipe will do. Except after you've scooped out your dough, deliberately push some extra chocolate chips to the cookies with the flat side pointing out (for the bodies of the spiders).
Then bake them as usual and let them cool.
After they're cooled, melt some chocolate in piping bag or even a zip-top sandwich bag and use a very small round piping tip or just snip off the corner and pipe straight from the bag.
I've told ya'll that I'm not really very good at cookie decorating, but these are so easy that my 11 year old son could do them!
Pipe on the legs... 8 would be ideal for spiders, but the some of our "spiders" only had 6 legs... ha! They're just "insect" cookies. 😉
He also piped heads on some of them - which I thought was a really cute idea - assuming spiders can be cute?!
And that's it... not too fancy or hard and certainly something your kids can do! They're also lots of fun and delicious and very creepy! And there aren't many things in this world that can be fun and delicious and creepy all at once... so you need to make them 😀 That's good logic, right?
Okay - maybe not... but you really will have fun!
Do you have any fun baking projects that you do with your kids? I'd love to hear about them!

Awesomeness! Will be making around Halloween. Couldn't have stumbled across this at a better time....or did you purposefully place this recipe with your milk an cookies cake?? Either way, perfect timing/time of year! Thanks!
Rose
I did add it here on purpose! Thank you!
